School Physicals

Before the school year begins, your child will need to get a physical exam. However, you don’t need to visit a doctor to get a school physical. The state of Kansas allows a chiropractor to perform this exam. At Sorell-Iversen Chiropractic Clinic in Manhattan, KS, our chiropractor offers back to school exams to ensure that your child is healthy. From kindergarten through college, public or private, the vast majority of schools require back to school physicals in order for students to enroll. These exams are important in ensuring that your child is healthy and developing properly.

School Physicals vs Regular Chiropractic Exams

If you or your child has already been receiving chiropractic care, you may be wondering what sets a school physical appointment apart. Similar to a regular chiropractic exam, your child's school physical will examine the curvature of the spine (checking for scoliosis) and take into account other basic health information. However, a school physical will be focused more on the general health rather than the musculoskeletal system.

Our School Physicals

Our children’s chiropractor provides the same exams as a pediatric doctor. A school physical involves the examination of your child's spine for scoliosis, an area that our chiropractor specializes in. We will ensure that your child’s joints and muscles work properly. We will also examine your child’s flexibility and posture. A school physical also involves checking and recording your child’s vitals. Our experts will also look at your child’s medical history and family medical history. If your child is experiencing any pain, we can go over that as well.

Physicals for Student Sports

If your child is involved in sports, he or she may need a physical at other times of the year or even an additional one at back to school time. Kansas allows chiropractors to perform these as well. Sports physicals are similar in nature to school physicals. We will evaluate your child’s overall health and fitness. Our chiropractor may also diagnose certain sports-related injuries. We provide treatment for these injuries and will work to help your child heal.
